West Ham United made an attempt to bring Marko Arnautovic back to the club from Inter Milan but found themselves rejected by the Austrian.

That’s according to Sky Italia’s Insider, relayed by Inter News, who say the veteran was uninterested in a move back to the London Stadium.

They report that Inter decided to stick with their current squad at the end of the transfer window and not make any moves until the summer transfer window.

They had been interested in potentially adding another striker to their squad but that would only have happened if one of Arnautovic or Joaquin Correa had departed.

Sky Italia’s Insider then reports that both could have moved, as Arnautovic had an offer from former club West Ham and Correa was a target for Cagliari.

Indeed, they say West Ham had ‘tempted’ their former striker, who scored 21 Premier League goals in 59 games for the club from 2017 to 2019. He, though, elected to turn down the move and remain in Italy.

That proved to be a disappointment for Inter, who could have used the money from selling Arnautovic to West Ham to fund a move for a striker who would be more of a guarantee than the 35-year-old.

Instead, they will have to wait for his contract and Correa’s to expire in the summer before making any moves.
