Inter Milan elected to pull out of the running for Marco Asensio and let him join Aston Villa instead, while Marcus Rashford’s demands stopped them moving for him also.

That’s according to Sky Italia’s Insider, relayed by Inter News, who explain Inter’s decision not to move late in the window for a forward.

They explain that Inter had toyed with the idea of signing a forward in January but needed either Marko Arnautovic or Joaquin Correa to depart first. Neither did, so the Italian club did not end up moving.

Before that, though, the club’s directors had spoken with the agents of several players, including Rashford and Asensio. Both, of course, ended up joining Aston Villa on loan.

Asensio was considered the most attractive name on the table, but his salary would have cost €9m and meant giving up on something in the summer transfer window.

After Arnautovic and Correa did not depart, Inter decided not to force the situation ‘by letting’ Asensio go to Aston Villa instead.

Rashford, on the other hand, was even more expensive and had demanded that he be a starter. It seems Inter Milan were not willing to offer that, or pay for him, and so turned that deal down as well.

That left both free to join Aston Villa, where Inter will presumably keep a close eye on them and how they get on in the coming months.
