Yunus Musah has been a standout player at AC Milan this season after West Ham tried to sign him in the summer.
The versatile midfielder has been a regular under Ruben Amorim, who has shown keen willingness to use him. The American has played over 400 minutes in all competitions already, adding significant balance to a team that really needs it.
Musah has witnessed significant ups and downs at the San Siro too. He has been in and out of the squad when the club has faced instability. There was a point when a move to West Ham appeared close until Atalanta signed him on loan.
He returned from Bergamo in the summer and had his future under doubt. Now, there has been a big U-turn.
Disbelief over rise

But things changed in pre-season when Amorim handed him a fresh start and he impressed in the friendlies. This has still caused disbelief but the manager is backed to the helm by the Rossoneri.
This came at a point when West Ham asked for ‘more than just information’ for the USA international. They were keen on a deal and Milan were also open to letting him depart.
But Musah’s high-intensity style matches Amorim’s demands. That is why he has played regularly in midfield, often allowing Luka Modric a reliable partner when he really needs it.
Musah is now seen as ‘irreplaceable’ and Amorim is unlikely to sanction an exit anytime soon.
Move now impossible
West Ham’s best chance of landing the 23-year-old probably came in 2025. That is when the player was looking for an exit and Milan had no place for him under Max Allegri.
Now, Musah is unlikely to consider playing in the Championship, with Milan a candidate to finish inside the top four.
Apart from playing in midfield, he can also slot into the wide areas. In the past, he has also played at right-back and it won’t be a surprise if these traits are seen later in the current season.
