West Ham United are showing ‘concrete interest’ in Ajax star Edson Álvarez as a potential replacement for Declan Rice.
That’s according to journalist Mike Verweij, who says the Dutch giants are yet to receive a bid for the Mexican midfielder.
A report in Germany today indicated that West Ham were competing with Borussia Dortmund for Álvarez’s signature, with the German side keen to spend the money they’ve brought in from the sale of Jude Bellingham.
They’re happy to spend the money to get Álvarez but West Ham’s interest is causing problems as they’re set to be flush with cash should Rice move to Arsenal in a €100m plus move.
Verweij covers those reports today and says that Ajax are yet to receive a bid for their player despite the apparent interest in him. A proposal to the player is also still in the works and he remains a ‘top priority’ for Dortmund.
But there is ‘concrete interest’ from West Ham in the midfielder as they plan their own mini rebuild after the potential departure of Rice.
At the moment it appears they are yet to make their move as they’re waiting for other business to be concluded first.
With Dortmund now having confirmed Bellingham’s move to Real Madrid, they may want to move quickly or risk losing out.
