On January 3rd, Il Mattino stated West Ham United are ‘ready to shell out’ to sign Boulaye Dia in the winter market. The Hammers haven’t taken that step yet and have to battle it out with Nottingham Forest for the Salernitana player’s signature.
That’s according to Sportitalia, who state West Ham and Nottingham Forest are two English clubs in the picture to sign the striker this month.
The Senegal international has four goals from 14 games this season and even though his statistics aren’t that impressive, the report says he’s got admirers across Europe. The Premier League duo are included in the list.
West Ham and the Tricky Trees have to be wary of competition from Russia, where both Spartak Moscow and Lokomotiv Moscow have identified the 27-year-old as their main target.
It’s claimed Salernitana sporting director Walter Sabatini will have talks this week to define Dia’s future. The Italian club’s CEO, Danilo Iervolino, will also be involved.
Dia reportedly had a €22m release clause valid until last Friday. If David Moyes’s side or Nottingham Forest want to sign him in January, they’ll have to negotiate with Salernitana.
According to the report, the player prefers a move to the Premier League.
