West Ham United midfielder Tomáš Souček has admitted he is toying with the idea of leaving the club for another country, rather than spending too long in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old has been speaking on the V Repre podcast, relayed by Infotbal in the Czech Republic, regarding transfers and where his career may take him.
The midfielder has been with West Ham since joining on loan from Slavia Prague in January 2020, a move that was made permanent in July that year.
He’s been a regular for them ever since but has started to face competition for a role as David Moyes has rebuilt his midfield following the departure of Declan Rice in the summer.
That’s only been added to by the arrival of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City this month, another midfield option for Moyes in a team that is increasingly well stocked in that position.
Souček’s current deal doesn’t expire until 2027 but he was linked with a move away throughout last year, with Inter Milan reportedly making advances before he signed a new deal at the London Stadium.
That’s a move which would be of interest to him, at least according to the player himself, who has admitted he’s assessing his future.
“Already last summer I received an offer directly from Saudi Arabia. But I immediately gave her away, it’s not my cup of coffee,” he said.
“A lot of people told me that he was knocking on the head, why. But it’s not for me. Neither America nor China. I would rather return to the Czech league, where I would live with my family and friends. And if it was Slavia that raised me, that would be a plus.”
“It’s true that sometimes I think about it – to try the Italian, German or Spanish leagues, for example. It would be more interesting than being in England all my life.
“But I’m also tempted to be in one team for several years, it’s the Premier League and a big team.”
