West Ham United are in the picture to sign Mainz striker Jonathan Burkardt, with a ‘transfer ban’ stopping them signing him in the January transfer window.

That’s according to SportBILD, who report that West Ham could compete with the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt for the striker.

The striker is expected to have plenty of suitors this summer after another impressive season that’s seen him bag 18 goals and three assists in 29 games this season.

He has a €20m release clause in his current contract and Mainz are very much open to a sale if that figure is met. They accept an exit is likely, even if they happen to qualify for the Conference League.

AC Milan and West Ham are among the suitors and would have moved in the January transfer window, but Mainz put a ‘transfer ban’ on their man and refused to sell at that point. Their stance has now changed.

Eintracht Frankfurt are also keen and considered their dream player but a recent meeting between the two club’s higher management failed to see him mentioned at all.

That would suggest they’re not about to move any time soon, perhaps giving West Ham their opportunity and they are in the mix, at least according to SportBILD.
