West Ham United have become the latest club to join the race for Atlético Madrid’s Mario Hermoso, according to a report from Italy.
The centre-back’s deal lasts until June and Gazzetta dello Sport say there’s only a small chance the La Liga side can renew his contract.
This has caught the attention of Inter Milan, West Ham and a few other clubs, who are all trying to sign the 28-year-old on a free transfer in the summer.
Inter could offer the defender a four-year deal, with an option for another year, which would be worth €5m per season.
The newspaper states the Serie A side will face competition from the Premier League and only David Moyes’ side are tagged. It’s claimed West Ham ‘can guarantee a higher salary’ for the Spaniard, meaning more than €5m per year.
However, the Hammers cannot offer a sporting project similar to the one that Inter can propose. In other words, he can compete with the European elite if he were to move to the San Siro.
Therefore, West Ham have to find a way to convince Hermoso with the sporting aspect, in order to beat the Nerazzurri and others for his signature.
As of now, the Atlético man hasn’t made a decision on his next step and has left all doors open.
West Ham aren’t the only Premier League side chasing Hermoso as Aston Villa are keen on him.
Last Thursday, Calciomercato reported his agents are in advancing negotiations with the Villans, after Unai Emery specifically requested his compatriot’s signing.
