Manchester City’s Yan Couto has been on loan at Girona since the summer of 2022, and he was one of the standout players for the La Liga side in the recently concluded season.
The right-back’s fine displays for Girona helped him make his debut for Brazil in October, and he’s been selected for Copa América squad.
The Manchester City owned player is currently at the national team camp. He spoke to the reporters on Tuesday, during which he talked about his future, and his comments are relayed by UOL.
On Tuesday, Globo Esporte explained that the Citizens have extended the 22-year-old’s deal by one more year, meaning he’s secured until 2026.
When discussing his future plans, the Brazil international confirmed that his current deal at Manchester City lasts until 2026. Couto has also insisted that he has left his agent to sort out his future.
“I had a very good season at Girona. Now that my loan ends, I’m looking at what to do for the future, but I’m with Manchester City. I have a contract with them until 2026, I’m going to talk to them this summer. We’ll sort it out and leave it in the hands of my manager,” he said.
“The season isn’t over for me. There’s the Copa América, and I’m going to stay focused here. There’s a long window, and I’ll leave it in their hands to decide the best destination for me.”
The South American’s comments would suggest he’s likely to leave Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer window.
Couto hasn’t made an appearance for Manchester City since joining them from Brazilian side Coritiba in 2020. He’s been out on loan for the last four seasons, of which three were at Girona.
