Bayer Leverkusen sports director Max Eberl has insisted they know what’s going on behind the scenes after Florian Wirtz’s reported trip to Blackpool and meeting with Liverpool.

Fussball Transfers cover comments from the Leverkusen sports director at a press conference today after Wirtz caused a stir this week.

Numerous reports from England and Germany have reported that Wirtz and his family travelled to England this week, Blackpool specifically, where they met with Liverpool and Manchester City also.

The midfielder is set to be one of the big names of the summer transfer window, with him seemingly determined to leave Leverkusen after establishing himself as one of the rising stars in Europe in recent years, particularly under Xabi Alonso.

The reports have caused quite a stir, with many assuming that Wirtz would join Bayern Munich this summer and reports in Germany certainly indicating as much.

Instead, he appears to have thrown the doors open to all suitors and Liverpool potentially being involved in a move for him, which could cost €150m, would be surprising.

There have been denials about their interest over the course of this week, with Wirtz’s father and agent refusing to comment and Liverpool denying all involvement for the time being. Eberl, though, insists that they know exactly what is going on.

“We know the facts,” he said when asked about Wirtz.

“If Florian Wirtz makes this trip with his family, they will have their reasons. It’s not for us to comment on that.”
