Spanish side Racing Santander are yet to make a decision on a move for Watford midfielder Juergen Elitim in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to AS, who say that a decision will have to be made on the Colombian midfielder at the end of this season.
He has been on loan with the LaLiga2 side since the summer, the latest in a series of loan moves away from Vicarage Road for him since joining Watford from Granada U19s in 2018.
He’s been a regular for them this season, making 17 appearances in the league so far and playing in 41% of the available minutes.
AS explain that Racing are ‘obliged to buy’ the player from Watford at the end of the season if they are promoted to La Liga, but if that doesn’t happen, which is likely as they’re 14th in the table and 14 points from 6th, then that simply becomes an option.
They will need to decide whether to pay the €500,000 figure for the player, but the newspaper states that ‘knowing Racing’s accounts’ and the fact that ‘almost nobody’ pays for transfers at the club then ‘it seems complicated’ for him to remain.
That, of course, could change if there is a ‘further negotiation’ between the three parties, something the player will probably want.
He’s made it clear he wants to leave Watford this summer and settle down somewhere permanently after years of being shipped out on loan, so perhaps his preference could determine what happens.
At the moment, though, it appears he will be on his way back to Vicarage Road at the end of this season unless there is a dramatic change in policy at Racing.
