On Wednesday, we relayed news from Turkey that Beşiktaş are close to signing Jamaal Lascelles, after reaching an agreement with the Newcastle United player.
Later that day, journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu stated the defender has requested to leave on a free transfer, given his deal expires after this season.
Türkiye Gazetesi state Newcastle aren’t interested in letting the 30-year-old leave via a loan deal and are looking for a sale this month.
The Black Eagles have an agreement in place with the centre-back and need to agree a deal with Eddie Howe’s side.
To do this, the report explains that Beşiktaş vice-president Hüseyin Yücel will make a trip to England via a private plane today, to convince the Premier League side.
It’s claimed Yücel is expected to return to Istanbul with the Englishman, but this will only be possible if an agreement is reached with Newcastle.
If a deal can’t be secured, Türkiye Gazetesi say Beşiktaş have identified Rennes’ Nemanja Matić as plan B. It’s to be noted the Serbian is a midfielder, while Lascelles operates in the heart of defence.
