On April 22nd, we covered claims from Brazil that Vinícius Souza could leave Sheffield United if they miss out on Premier League promotion.
At the weekend, Sunderland beat the Blades in the Championship playoff final to become the third club, along with Leeds United and Burnley, to return to the top flight.
The 25-year-old’s future would be away from Sheffield United if a report from AS is to be believed.
They point out he had opportunities to leave last summer but decided to stay to help the club return to the Premier League. Chris Wilder’s side have failed to fulfil their objective, and the defensive midfielder could be on the move.
Vinícius Souza’s contract at Bramall Lane lasts until 2027, but the report states he’s ‘ready to take the next step’ in his career. In other words, he’s ready to leave Sheffield United in the summer window.
AS state the Brazilian wants to ‘return to the elite’, without providing any further explanation on what ‘elite’ represents for the Sheffield United player. He hasn’t debuted for the national team but is hopeful of representing them at the 2026 World Cup.
Souza played has over 3,000 minutes from 38 games for the Championship side this season and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. The report states unnamed clubs from the Premier League and La Liga have approached him.
One to keep an eye on and see how this case develops.
