The man who discovered Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, Renzo Nadin, has backed him to prove his doubters wrong with Juventus.

TuttoJuve have an interview with the sporting director today. He’s adamant that all of Vicario’s problems at Tottenham were not of his own making.

Why the goalkeeper isn’t to blame

The Tottenham goalkeeper now appears destined to join Juventus this summer. The Italian team have long been linked with a move for the 29-year-old as they search for a new number one.

He is now on the verge of returning to Italy with them. Sport Witness covered a report today stating as much after negotiations accelerated over the weekend.

Nadin is happy with those developments. And he thinks that Juventus are getting a high-level goalkeeper in the Italian.

“Yes, Guglielmo is a high-level goalkeeper. He arrives with the right amount of experience and maturity,” he said.

“I place a lot of weight on the views of Walter Zenga – his former coach at Venezia – who rates him as one of the best Italian goalkeepers around.

“Joining Juventus is a massive responsibility; the world’s best goalkeepers have passed through there – names like Buffon, Zoff, and Peruzzi – who made history in the position.”

Juventus sceptics will be won over

Nadin is also convinced that the Tottenham goalkeeper will win over any Juventus sceptics. Italian fans have already questioned the move on social media, but he’s having none of it.

“I’m convinced he’ll win over the sceptics,” he added.

“I’m a Juventus fan myself, and I’d say there’s no need to worry too much. He has always shown great reliability. I’m certain he’ll prove his worth in Turin, too.”

Blame distribution to excuse player

The director isn’t focused on last season’s disappointing at Tottenham either. Vicario came in for plenty of criticism as Spurs narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League.

Tottenham eventually dropped him in favour of Antonin Kinsky. Nadin believes that not all the blame can be put in on the Italian goalkeeper’s shoulders.

“The injury he suffered last year was a factor that was greatly underestimated,” he concluded.

“Unfortunately, it really held him back, especially during the second half of the season. Guglielmo did everything he could to treat the issue and be in top shape for the campaign.

“I watched a lot of Tottenham matches this season, and their defence always left me very puzzled. It wasn’t always his fault. In my view, some of the goals Guglielmo conceded were down to the defence’s lacklustre performance.”
