Central defenders, namely Harry Maguire, have dominated the Premier League transfer market this summer and the next big move may be coming from La Liga.
Levante EMF report today that Valencia have turned down a €40m bid from the Premier League for defender Mouctar Diakhaby, heavily suggesting that Wolves are the club to have made it.
The newspaper reports that Wolves have already made a bid, although it’s not clear if that was the €40m mentioned or a different amount. Furthermore, two other clubs are happy to pay that price and a third is ‘willing to enter the fight’.
Diakhaby made 38 appearances for the club in all competitions last season and impressed so much so that he gained interest from the Premier League.
Valencia weighed up the pros and cons of the bid and decided to reject it as Diakhaby is a player they are banking on for the future, but that doesn’t mean they have completely closed the door on a deal.
They won’t sell the defender for €40m but are open to bids that exceed that price and will remain ‘expectant’ on the issue until the Premier League transfer window closes on August 8th.
It’s unlikely Wolves will offer more than €40m.
