Saturday was thoroughly miserable for Tottenham Hotspur.
Antonio Conte’s side suffered an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Leicester City, a result which damages the club’s chances of making the Champions League for next season.
In addition to that, Rodrigo Bentancur went down with a knee injury and it was quickly obvious something quite bad had happened.
There was immediate concern around Tottenham but also in Uruguay, given Bentancur is an important part of the national team.
Indeed, it’s such a big issue in Uruguay that El Pais currently have the latest bad news as their main sports story.
That bad news comes from elsewhere in Uruguay, with Federico Buysan saying the midfielder has torn his left cruciate ligament.
That was revealed after Tottenham conducted their own MRI scan on Sunday morning. Given the diagnosis, Bentancur is expected to be out of action for a minimum of six months.
That’s bad news for the player, his club and also his country.
