Lommel SK forward Alonso Martínez has revealed how a recent trip to train at Manchester City’s training ground has him loning for a move to the club in future.
The 24-year-old returned to Lommel in December last year after a loan spell at LD Alajuelense in his native Costa Rica.
He’s been in good form in Belgium this season, bagging four goals and three assists in ten games in the Challenger Pro-League, Belgium’s second division.
That’s the kind of form which could earn him attention if it continues, with many a player having moved from Belgium to the big leagues in Europe in recent years.
A move to Manchester City is unlikely to be on the cards anytime soon, even if a move would be easy given both they and Lommel are part of the City Group network of clubs.
That hasn’t stopped Martínez from dreaming, though, particularly after a recent trip to Manchester City’s training complex.
“Yes, I think that playing in Europe gives you a lot of experience, even more being a City Football Group player,” he told ESPN.
“When we had the experience of going to train at the Manchester City facilities it was something spectacular, the pitches where they train, the hotel where they stay, the food areas.
“It was an unforgettable experience that stayed in my life, that makes me want to fight more, to think that if I get to City, it will be like that.”
