Incidents involving Eintracht Frankfurt fans in the recent clashes with Tottenham have added to calls for the German club’s fans to be dealt with properly.

BILD explain the situation today and that Eintracht fans are currently risking their side being banned because of their misbehaviour.

The club are close to reaching the Champions League on the pitch but ‘some idiots’ are only interested in misbehaving in the stands, with the latest incident seeing them ‘mock the opponent and spit on their team’.

An ‘escalation’ in Mainz saw them throwing numerous objects at an opposition player, and linesman Robert Wessel was even struck. If referee Martin Petersen had seen this, the game would have been abandoned and cost Eintracht points in the race for the Champions League.

According to BILD, tensions have been rising for some time and brawls are feared between different fan groups.

In fact, tensions have been brewing between major fan groups and particularly when fans delayed a game against Bochum for 50 minutes by refusing to remove a banner.

There have also been incidents elsewhere, including against Tottenham in the Europa League, and major internal discussions are taking place. This could affect ticket allocations in future.

The ultras are currently favoured with large allocations and the feeling is that Eintracht have allowed too much. They need their votes for major projects, but the concern is that now they’re too powerful and using that to do what they like in the stands.

“Enough is enough. Tottenham, Bochum, and now Mainz,” Frankfurt fan Bernd Wehner told the newspaper.

“The behaviour of these so-called fans can no longer be tolerated. They are damaging the club, both nationally and internationally.

“Eintracht is now called upon. There must be no more subsidies for ultra tickets. Furthermore, a ban on away travel in the Champions League would be a good idea. Who knows what else might happen?”

“The selfishness of these fans has become unbearable,” added Christian Reisert.

“Since Peter Fischer (former president/ed.) is no longer with us, the ultras have been dancing around Eintracht. When will action be taken? It’s no longer fun to be an Eintracht fan.”
