It was a widely held view in the Spanish media that Arsene Wenger continuing as Arsenal manager would just about kill any hopes of Barcelona signing Hector Bellerin, for this summer at least.

Bellerin is said to feel he owes Wenger an awful lot, after the manager showed faith in him as a youngster, and subsequently helped build his career. So, Wenger staying was supposed to equal Bellerin rumours going away.

Arsenal confirming Wenger’s continuation hasn’t exactly had that impact, with stories still popping up over the past couple of days, and Bellerin still positioned by the Catalan media as Barcelona’s first choice for right back.

Marca, perhaps winding up their Catalan cousins, have a Saturday article underlining just how hard Barcelona’s chase for a right back is. Bellerin’s loyalty to Wenger is reiterated, and it’s stated the manager sees the 22 year old as a future Arsenal captain.

With that, and Arsenal’s likely asking price stated as being over €50m, Barcelona have very little hope of actually getting something done.
