Liverpool may need to offer as much as €15m for Feyenoord manager Arne Slot, and it’s all Roberto De Zerbi’s fault.

That’s according to journalist Valentijn Driessen, who reports that the Brighton manager’s release clause is something Feyenoord could look to be matched for their manager.

Liverpool made their move for Slot yesterday, making a first approach for the Dutch coach as they look for Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.

That bid was rejected out of hand by Feyenoord, with it explained in the Netherlands that it was far below what they are looking for.

Those reports made it clear that the Dutch club were more than willing to discuss a deal for their title winning coach but would only do so on their terms.

Liverpool’s first offer for him was believed to be far below their expectations and it remains to be seen if the Reds up their bid when negotiations resume at some point in the near future.

If they do, they’ll have to go rather high according to Driessen, who reports Feyenoord have set their sights on a new record, partly because of the fee Brighton will demand for De Zerbi, another manager in demand this summer.

“They extended his contract last year and he already earns €3.5 million excluding bonuses. Truly a Premier League salary. Feyenoord can ask what they want,” he said.

“He (De Zerbi) can be ransomed for €14m at Brighton, so Feyenoord should always go above that. At least €15m has to start coming on the table. That’s a record for a Dutch coach. I don’t think more than €5m has ever been paid.”
