Tottenham Hotspur’s win in the Europa League final and qualification for the Champions League has led to confidence they’ll sign Mathys Tel permanently from Bayern Munich.
That’s according to the Bayern Insider podcast, with journalists Christian Falk and Tobias Altschäffl, who report that Tottenham could get the forward for around €40m.
Tel has been on loan at Tottenham since the January transfer window, with that deal including an option for it to be made permanent for €60m.
There’s been no indication that Tottenham would pay that fee, with the Frenchman having been in and out of the side under Ange Postecoglou in the second half of the season.
Reports in Germany, though, have indicated that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is a big fan of the player and sees him as a potential star of the future to build the team around. The indications have been that he wants to re-negotiate the deal with Bayern this summer.
A big summer is now expected thanks to the success in the Europa League final, which has ensured Tottenham will be back in the Champions League next season.
Falk and Altschäffl say that is very much on the cards, with the former believing a deal can be done at less than the €60m quoted in the loan deal.
“Tottenham is now in the Champions League, and that could mean a lot of money for Mathys Tel,” said Altschäffl.
“That’s true, and we’ve also heard that Daniel Levy is still a big fan of his, even though he didn’t start in the final,” added Falk.
“The exit period from €60-50m would also go down again. I think over €30m is a negotiating basis, and if we land on €40m, I think it would be okay. So the deal is still not off the table.”
