It appears that Tottenham could very well beat the competition in the race to acquire VfL Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven.
This comes courtesy of De Telegraaf in the Netherlands, who have a short article claiming that Spurs have reached an ‘oral agreement’ with the defender on a contract that would tie him to the London club until 2028.
They say this comes from ‘sources around the Premier League’, suggesting someone at Tottenham told them about it.
The deal isn’t done yet, however, as the defender ‘still has to undergo the medical examination’, and while there were multiple clubs after him, it’s Daniel Levy who ‘turned out to be the most impactful’.
First, however, ‘the clubs have to come to an agreement’, and that’s because the Bundesliga side ‘want an amount of €40m’ for the player’s contract at Wolfsburg, which currently runs until the summer of 2027.
Despite this request, De Telegraaf claim that the final transfer fee is ‘expected to be around €35m’ after negotiations with Tottenham are done.
That, in turn, would be ‘fantastic news’ for FC Volendam, who added a 15% of a future resale when they initially sold the player to Wolfsburg for €3.5m.
