RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose is pleased that Timo Werner is enjoying life at Tottenham Hotspur.
Rose didn’t rely upon the forward in the first half of the season, so he was allowed to join Spurs on a loan deal with an option to buy in January.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the manager said there’s been no subsequent contact with the Tottenham man, and his quotes are relayed by RTL.
The 28-year-old has featured regularly and also contributed four goals [two goals and two assists] from eight games for the north London club.
The Germany international’s contract at the Bundesliga side lasts until 2026, and Rose is well aware that the player may not return to Leipzig.
“We are not in contact, but of course I am following his development. He starts scoring again, this is a result of being comfortable and feeling good. He should keep riding the wave,” he said.
“Basically, he is one of our players, but Tottenham obviously have the opportunity to sign him completely.”
According to DPA, relayed by RTL, Ange Postecoglou’s side can buy Werner for €17m. If they were to exercise the option, Leipzig would recover most part [€20m] of the fee they invested to buy him from Chelsea in 2022.
This was initially reported by Bild two days ago, who also explained that the buying option for Tottenham is valid only until June 14th.
