Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs chasing Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapié, who spent his playing career in South America before arriving in Europe in 2021.
The Ecuador international came up through the ranks of Independiente del Valle’s youth system and was promoted to their first team in 2019.
Independiente sold the defender Talleres in August 2020, before the Argentine side let him join Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
The centre-back has been a regular figure for the Bundesliga side since last September as he has featured 21 times in all competitions this season. His performances have caught the attention of Spurs and other sides.
According to Bolavip, Antonio Conte has ‘noticed’ the ‘great level’ shown by the 20-year-old in his debut season in Germany.
Tottenham are not alone as AC Milan, AS Roma, Napoli, Sevilla and Zenit Saint Petersburg are also ‘closely following’ the player. All of these sides are ‘not bad options’ for Hincapié, but these suitors have to ‘shell out several millions’ to take him away from Leverkusen.
“The reality is that Bayer Leverkusen does think, in the medium term, of capitalising on Piero Hincapié’s contract, that is, multiplying the investment. Today I cannot guarantee that they will part ways with him. Is there interest? Yes, Are there real offers? No,” Ecuadorian journalist Sebastián Decker told StudioFútbol’s program, De Una.
Another guest, journalist Jaime Macías, had this to say on the player.
“Hincapié came to Bayer Leverkusen for his adaptation year. They thought next season was going to be his breakthrough, but everything has accelerated,” Macías said.
“In their squad management process, they count on Hincapié for next season, since someone else will come out, it is not known who is going to come out.”
