Tottenham Hotspur secured an option to buy Johnny Cardoso when they sold Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis last summer.

Cardoso has impressed this season and earlier this week, the La Liga club rewarded him with a new contract until 2030.

Two days ago, Marca stated there won’t be any changes to Tottenham’s €25m preferential option for the summer even though his new buyout clause is set at €80m.

Friday’s edition of ABC Sevilla provides more on the agreement negotiated by Tottenham with Real Betis for Cardoso.

Spurs have a ‘preferential option’ to buy the American for €25m, and the newspaper states this clause is valid between June 30th and July 10th.

Tottenham only negotiated a deal with Real Betis and ‘still have to reach an agreement’ with the 23-year-old to secure his services. Should he refuse to join them and sign for another club, Spurs can still benefit.

The Spanish club can sell the midfielder to another club if they were to receive an offer higher than €25m. If that were to happen, then Tottenham will receive 20% of the difference.

In short, if Cardoso snubs Tottenham for another club, Spurs can still gain financially.
