At this point in time, there’s no real reason to deny the fact that Fabio Paratici, currently the man in charge of transfers at Tottenham, is a fan of Nicolo Zaniolo.
The Italian, as well as the manager at Spurs, has been trying to work with the AS Roma star for quite some time now, dating back to his spell at Juventus, and a serious attempt was made to bring him to London in the summer.
The interest hasn’t gone away, with it reported just two weeks ago that Tottenham were still keen to sign the player, although whether a January move would be made was still up in the air.
Zaniolo’s contract with Roma ends in 2024, and there have been a number of setbacks in the club’s attempts to prolong that over the past few months.
So much so, in fact, that there is now the possibility of the Serie A side considering a potential bid down the line if they can’t get something resolved soon.
Tottenham aren’t outright named, but we all know who that nod is for, and it’s even added that while the logic would be for his current club to renew Zaniolo, it’s pointed out that, ‘at the end of this season, a club can arrive that pays €25m and can convince’ the player to move.
That may seem like a small amount, but with a contract with just one year left on it at that point, Roma ‘cannot imagine asking for €50m as they planned to do last summer’.
Therefore, if nothing comes from the next meeting between Zaniolo’s entourage and Roma in the next few days, a real door of opportunity could open for Tottenham and Paratici for a potential €25m deal next summer.
