Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for a new manager after showing the exit door to Antonio Conte on March 26th. Cristian Stellini, who was appointed as interim coach, is currently in charge at the north London club.

Earlier this month, De Telegraaf stated Spurs have shown interest in Feyenoord manager Arne Slot, who has also been linked with clubs like Leeds United and Crystal Palace. The 44-year-old has guided his side to the top of the table, eight points ahead of second placed Ajax.

Former Netherlands international Wim Kieft, writing in his column for De Telegraaf, believes Slot will leave Feyenoord after this season and has nudged his compatriot to pick Tottenham.

Feyenoord sealed a 1-0 win over AS Roma in the Europa League on Thursday. Kieft was critical of José Mourinho’s methods and talked about how his playing style is different to that of Pep Guardiola.

Kieft then likened Slot to Guardiola and when discussing the Feyenoord manager’s future options, he backed the Eredivisie coach to join Tottenham.

“That also happens to Slot at Feyenoord, where he has put together two teams in two years that are highly successful in Europe. If you put together a team twice with such a limited budget as at Feyenoord that reaches the final of the Conference League and a year later with seven new players reach the quarterfinal of the Europa League with such attractive attacking football, then you do excellent work,” he said.

“Because Slot stands for a certain football product, he will always be of interest to clubs looking for a trainer. After having done the same trick twice at Feyenoord, he now has to spread his wings. Undoubtedly, an exodus of players will follow. Whether he will succeed a third time to build a new team and perform nationally and internationally in the Champions League is uncertain. Let him strike while the iron is hot.

“The question is: which club dares to take on in England, for example? To play such distinctive football as at Feyenoord with Leeds United or Crystal Palace will be very difficult. Especially because those clubs do not have the financial scope for Slot to trump the top five in England. There are such good quality players around.

“But a club like Tottenham Hotspur would fit perfectly. A big ambitious club with a big budget available and historically speaking, Spurs have stood for attacking football and there is always room for creative players. In London, Slot can express his football ideas and he can reap financially.”
