Last summer, Napoli needed to bolster their midfield, and decided to turn to Tanguy Ndombélé to do so, securing the Tottenham player on loan with an option to buy.
He spent the season there, playing when called upon by Luciano Spalletti, but never impressed enough to convince the Serie A side to trigger the clause, instead wanting a discount on the fee, which Spurs decided not to accept.
Fast forward to this summer, and the Italians are considering doing the same thing, but this time with Giovani Lo Celso, as explained by Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper recall that Napoli already wanted to Tottenham man last year, but a move ‘never materialised’.
Now, he is once again the centre of attention, with ‘negotiations’ between the two clubs taking place, as Spurs have ‘decided to sell’ him.
The issue, at this moment in time, is the formula, since the Italians would prefer to get the Tottenham player on loan with a view to buy.
Over at TuttoMercatoWeb, it’s stated that Napoli ‘continue to insist’ in their attempts to sign Lo Celso, and that’s why they are ‘negotiating his purchase with Spurs’.
Their information states that Tottenham want €25m for the player, while Napoli are currently ready to offer €15m, meaning there is a €10m difference between the two sides.
That’s a big gap to bridge, and with the conflicting reports, since Corriere believe the Serie A club want a loan with an option to buy, it’s best to wait for a bit more clarity.
