At this point, Juventus’ biggest fear on the transfer market is Tottenham, a club they so happen to have a good relationship with.
The reason for that is the Serie A side’s desire to sign Franck Kessie, who is also on Spurs’ agenda as they try and renovate their squad for Ange Postecoglou.
Corriere dello Sport have an article on Tottenham’s interest in the Ivory Coast international and make it clear the Premier League side have a head start in the race.
Spurs normally like doing business with Juventus, as they have bought the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from them in the past, but the two are currently rivals.
It’s explained that the danger posed by Tottenham for Kessie has ‘far from disappeared’, and there is a date that could make the deal happen: August 8th.
This is when Barcelona, where the midfielder is currently contracted, and Spurs face each other in a friendly, which would be a ‘useful occasion’ for the English side to sit down with the Spaniards and try to sort out a deal.
That’s one trump card they have over Juventus, which is added to the fact the meeting the €15m valuation ‘is not a problem’ for Tottenham.
And if that wasn’t enough, Spurs have an ‘additional advantage’, which is that Kessie ‘keeps the idea of an experience in the Premier League as a priority’ compared to a return to Serie A.
To sum it all up, August 8th could be a critical date, and Juventus need to make their move before then if they are to stand a realistic chance of signing the former AC Milan star.
