Liverpool moving for PSV Eindhoven forward Johan Bakayoko would be “total madness”, with a continued disbelief they’re really in the race for the 20-year-old.
That’s at least as far as analyst Wim Kieft is concerned, with him continuing to question whether reports around Liverpool are genuine or not.
Bakayoko has been linked with a move to Anfield over the past few weeks, with the Reds said to be one of several sides exploring a deal for the 20-year-old winger.
Their interest was believed to stem from a potential need to replace Mohamed Salah, who had suddenly been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Reports had indicated that Bakayoko was being eyed as the long-term replacement for the Egyptian should he make a surprise departure before the end of the window.
That would be a bold move for Liverpool to make given the difference between the two players and it has been questioned in some corners.
Kieft is one of those who has been most vocal about it, insisting over the weekend that he simply didn’t believe Bakayoko was good enough at this moment in time.
He’s now continued to publicly question the rumours, insisting it would be strange for Liverpool to move for the player.
“I was also so surprised by the news that Liverpool were interested in Bakayoko,” Voetbal Primeur report him saying to Veronica Offside.
“That’s madness, isn’t it? I really think that’s total madness. I don’t believe all those reports. His agents are just putting such reports into the world.”
