Everton are yet to contact Flamengo about paying Charly Alcaraz’s purchase clause and intend to wait for another five games to do so.
That’s according to journalist Fabrício Lopes from the from the Resenha Rubro-Negra channel on YouTube, who insists Everton are yet to move for the midfielder.
Alcaraz is currently on loan at Everton from Flamengo and the deal includes an obligation for Everton to buy him for £15m once he’s played at least 45 minutes in six games.
He’s been edging closer to that number since his arrival but there have been reports in Brazil that Everton intend to avoid activating that clause and instead re-negotiate with Flamengo this summer.
That’s not gone down well, with it then reported that there are other Premier League sides waiting to move if Everton don’t make use of the clause on the midfielder.
This led to claims that Everton had already been in touch with Flamengo to pay Alcaraz’s clause early and avoid any transfer battle in the summer. It should be noted that earlier reports had made it clear Everton intended to buy the midfielder regardless of the clause after being left very impressed by him early on.
Lopes now provides his own information on the matter from sources at Flamengo and insists there’s been no contact from Everton as yet.
“Flamengo was not informed about this clause activation,” he said.
“In fact, recently, Flamengo had been informed that Everton would, in fact, exercise the right to this clause, to buy Charles Alcaraz, but wanted to wait five more games, also because the guys are afraid of Charles getting injured.
“So, based on the information I have at the moment, they will wait five more games to activate the clause.
“Now, guys, it’s possible that someone has leaked the information and that while I’m recording this, this video for you, Everton contacts Flamengo and says, we’re going to exercise the clause.
“But within Flamengo, up until the moment I’m recording this video here, no one has been informed about Everton activating Thiago Alcaraz’s clause.”
