While most of us are now completely bored waiting for Wout Weghorst to leave Burnley this summer, it seems some are quite excited about his next destination.
And when we say some, we mean René van der Gijp, via Football Transfers, who apparently can’t wait for the striker to end up at Ajax.
As you’re probably more than aware at this point in the summer, Wout Weghorst has been linked with a move away from Burnley before the transfer window closes.
The striker has returned to Turf Moor this year after a loan spell at Hoffenheim but does not appear to be a part of Burnley’s plans, or indeed want to be a part of them.
A move back to the Netherlands has been speculated upon for months and Ajax have been long been in the mix, despite already having Chuba Akpom and Brian Brobbey on their books.
A deal is not yet progressing but is believed to be in the works, with Ajax even potentially selling one of those players to make room for the Burnley man.
And it seems Van der Gijp wants to see it happen, although not for entirely kind reasons if his comments are anything to go by.
“I hope Ajax signs him,” Football Transfers report him saying on Vandaag Inside.
“I really hope so, because Weghorst will then really think that he is the one who is going to do it. How much fun can you have with that? That will be entertainment.
“Ajax is now in a downward spiral and Weghorst thinks he can break that spiral. He thinks he can take Ajax in tow. Isn’t that good? That he thinks that.
“At a club where Piet Keizer, Sjaak Swart, Johan Cruijff, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert have played football… They are such great players. And then Wout Weghorst? I’m already looking forward to it.”
