Leandro Trossard has scored two goals and registered one assist from nine games in all competitions for Arsenal this season.
Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco left him out of the squad for September’s matches against Israel and France.
The Arsenal player has returned to the squad for October’s international break. He’s been talking to the reporters, with Het Belang van Limburg relaying his comments.
Tedesco said he wanted to give opportunities to new players last month, which is why he omitted a few regulars from the squad. The German gave this explanation to the 29-year-old, but he was still surprised to be left out.
When the forward was asked if he was satisfied with the manager’s explanation, he said this case is now behind him.
“Wow, you don’t think about it beforehand, and I didn’t see it coming either, so I was happy with the phone call I received from the manager beforehand,” he said.
“We’ll see how the trainer wants to handle things in the future, I don’t know his plans exactly. But I never indicated that I no longer wanted to be selected. Let us first finish the matches against Italy and France, then we will see.”
The Belgium international joined Arsenal from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023. He scored 20 goals and registered 13 assists from 70 matches for the Gunners. The attacker was asked if he’s currently having his best spell at the north London club.
“I’ve been at Arsenal for two years now and so far, I have delivered fairly consistent performances. The team is also doing well at the moment, so it is easy for me. In any case, I feel good about myself, and you can see that on the pitch,” Trossard explained.
The Arsenal man is aware of the tight schedule, but still wants to represent Belgium whenever he can.
“Every player has to decide that for himself. We all have busy schedules, that’s true. And there are players who have made agreements with the coach. I’m personally happy to be here, because I want to continue the good trend of Arsenal with De Rode Duivels,” he added.
