Inter Milan’s need to sell before they can buy could be the opening needed for Manchester United to sign Denzel Dumfries this summer.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who cover the situation today after United’s interest in the Dutchman was revealed.

Earlier today, we covered a report from Gazzetta Dello Sport that stated Manchester United, and particularly Erik ten Hag, are big fans of Dumfries.

They would reportedly be willing to make a move if they can sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and CM now follow that up.

They cover recent comments from Inter Milan chief Beppe Marotta, who admitted ‘constraints’ at the club had led them to miss out on Gleison Bremer.

The message being sent out by the Italian side is that they need to sell before they can buy, and that means ‘everyone is on the market’ for the right price.

Their plan is to raise €60m by June next year to get the accounts in order, and only Nico Barella, Alessandro Bastoni and Lautaro Martinez are the players they absolutely wouldn’t want to sell.

The player with the ‘most market’ is Dumfries, and he has ‘many admirers’ in the Premier League. Manchester United are one of them, and Ten Hag is in ‘pole position’ to secure his signature.

He knows the player well and ‘would be pushing’ for his compatriot to join him at Old Trafford this summer.

Inter have set an asking price of €40m as that is a figure which would represent an excellent capital gain given Dumfries arrived for a figure of €15m 12 months ago.

Whether Manchester United are willing to pay that isn’t made clear, but if they were to ‘come up with a fair offer’, then the defender ‘could pack his bags’.
