Palmeiras have opened talks with Richarlison’s agent, according to a report from local sports news agency RTI.
The outlet claims club president Leila Pereira is already in contact with the player’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, to explore the terms of a potential deal.
The report states that the Brazilian club have long monitored the striker and had previously tried to sign him on loan when Tottenham placed him on their list of negotiable players. That offer, however, was rejected by the London side at the time.
Flamengo and Fluminense were also linked during that period, but it’s Palmeiras who now seem to be leading the race.
The club are said to be looking for a major attacking signing for the remainder of the season, especially with a focus on the Copa Libertadores.
Interestingly, this alleged move comes in contrast to recent claims by Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, who reported that a return to Brazil had already been ruled out by Richarlison and that clubs from Europe and the Middle East were leading negotiations for the 27-year-old.
Despite that, RTI maintain that Palmeiras see an opportunity, especially as it’s believed the player could terminate his contract with Spurs and be available as a free agent.
That appears to be a hugely optimistic slant and there’s no indication yet from Tottenham that they’d even consider such a step.
