Spanish outlet Marca is today happy to present an interview with manager Mikel Arteta.

The newspaper highlights that the coach has rarely spoken since the end of the Premier League season, and there’s now a two-page chat with him in their Sunday issue.

Marca obviously had many questions about Arsenal’s 2022/23 Premier League campaign and how close they got to winning their Premier League title. But they also wanted to know what Arteta plans for the future, and the Gunners’ chief claims to be very much focused on that.

Speaking of his holidays in Spain, the manager claims he’s actually already working, as the transfer window is a crucial time for them to improve their squad.

“At first, it costs. You come from a lot of tension and lowering the heart rate takes a while. The phone keeps ringing, that’s clear, because things happen in summer. The first week I got a little more detached, but we are already in the middle of the market and decisions have to be made.”

Especially about this improvement, he points out that Arsenal are working to add to the team the kind of players they lacked last season.

“We already did the regeneration of the squad, with a very young average and that will generate performance and value. We have some owners aligned with us: build a winning team that is sustained over time, without so much investment. But the demand is increasing and you have to go to the market to find what we don’t have to continue improving.”

Arteta refused to speak about the potential signing of Declan Rice, and Marca tried to push a little by mentioning Kai Havertz, and the Gunners’ boss made it sound like that’s the type of signing that Arsenal are looking for.

“Talent comes at a price, and we are interested in young people with experience. Kai has already shown a lot, including a Champions League. He is a talented player, versatile and only 24 years old.”
