Sunderland have made a move for SM Caen striker Alexandre Mendy and submitted a first offer for him.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say Sunderland ‘joins the dance’ for the player, who seems destined to move on from the French side sooner rather than later.
FM explain that the 30-year-old ‘should quickly see his future become clearer’ after recently being left out of a friendly and a squad travelling to Switzerland for pre-season.
This was done because he appears to be on the way out after Al-Riyad in Saudi Arabia recently made an effort for him.
They’ve now been joined in the hunt by Sunderland, who are seen as a ‘new, attractive opportunity’ for him.
According to FM’s information, Sunderland have ‘decided to move’ for the striker and have already made a first offer to Caen.
Negotiations are currently underway between the two sides to work out a deal, but it’s felt that any decision will be the player’s to make.
He has the choice to move to England and join Sunderland as they look to compete in the Championship next season and return to the Premier League or accept the money on offer in Saudi.
With a bid from the Black Cats now lodged, though, his response is expected ‘in the coming days’ as the various parties look to resolve his future quickly.
