Enzo Le Fee joined Sunderland on loan from AS Roma in the January transfer window.

The deal raised eyebrows across Europe and after a good start initially in the Championship, the Frenchman’s form has faded after an injury.

He has started only one of Sunderland’s last five Championship games and RomaForever have looked at how the transfer has proved to be a gamble.

That is because as of now, the Black Cats’ obligation to sign Le Fee permanently will be triggered if they earn promotion to the Premier League. They are now fighting for a place in the play-offs and there is limited chance of promotion.

Roma’s goal, when they loaned out Le Fee, was to recover the money they spent on him in the summer of 2024, but the uncertainty is proving to be a ‘big problem’ for the Italian giants.

The Giallorossi are hoping for a happy ending, yet in their minds doubts are arising about Le Fee’s real value. If he does return to Italy in the summer, his value would have fallen and this can impact how much Roma earn from a future sale.
