RC Lens’ Salis Abdul Samed has been on loan at Sunderland since last summer but the move hasn’t worked out well for him.

Sunderland don’t have an option to buy and as things stand the midfielder has to return to the Ligue 1 club after this season.

The Ghana international’s future needs to be clarified in the summer and Allez Lens, a site dedicating its coverage to Lens, provides the latest.

Régis Le Bris wasn’t able to rely upon the 25-year-old in the first half of the season as he was on the sidelines due to an injury.

The player waited until January to make his first appearance for the Black Cats and has played 215 minutes from eight games this season. He suffered another injury setback in March and returned to pitch at the weekend.

Over at Lens, they have to strengthen their midfield in the summer window. Nampalys Mendy, one of their top earners, will leave after this season and there is also uncertainty over Andy Diouf and Neil El Aynaoui.

Taking this into account, Allez Lens state the Sunderland man could be a credible option for the French club next season.

He’s spent most of his loan spell at Sunderland on the sidelines due to muscle problems. Lens officials are cautious and are monitoring his situation.

Lens manager Will Still wants to be certain that Salis Abdul Samed no longer has fitness concerns before considering him for next season. If he puts the injury woes behind him, the player can be a serious option for Lens’ midfield and to likely to replace Mendy.

What’s clear for now is that his future will be away from Sunderland after this season.
