FC St. Pauli have identified Sunderland’s Nectarios Triantis as a target for the summer window.

That’s according to Hamburger Abendblatt, and the newspaper local to the German club covers their efforts to try and sign the Sunderland player.

The Australia international left Central Coast Mariners to join Sunderland in June 2023. He’s struggled for minutes, and the Black Cats sent him on loan to Hibernian in February 2024.

Last summer, Hibs extended the centre-back’s loan stay until the end of this season. He’s impressed in Scotland, playing over 3,000 minutes from 35 games in all competitions.

The Sunderland man’s impressive performances for Hibernian have seen him attract interest from several European clubs. The report focuses on St. Pauli and states their scout made contact with the 22-year-old.

Hamburger Abendblatt, who say it’s their own information, explain what the scout heard ‘sounded promising’.

Triantis’ contract lasts until 2027 and Sunderland are willing to negotiate a transfer for a suitable offer. The report states the asking price is likely to be in the ‘high six-figure range’, without mentioning any figures.

It could take some time for the English club to make the final decision. Their immediate focus is to try and get back to the Premier League and to do that they must overcome Sheffield United in the playoff final.
