Ian Poveda hasn’t made an appearance for Sunderland this season.
On October 7th, we covered claims from Colombia that the mystery around the 25-year-old’s disappearance for Sunderland remains unanswered.
The London-born Colombia international has made four appearances for Sunderland’s U21s this season and three of them were in August.
On Friday, that side drew with Norwich City U21s in the Premier League Cup. Graeme Murty, the Black Cats U21 manager, included Poveda in the squad for this clash.
AS in Colombia says the winger made an appearance for the first time in 112 days and played 45 minutes against Norwich City. It’s unclear whether Murty will call him up for upcoming fixtures.
The report insists his long absence wasn’t due to an injury. Régis Le Bris has left him out of his plans for Sunderland’s senior team.
Poveda’s contract at the Stadium of Light lasts until 2027 but his future could lie elsewhere, given that he’s not part of Le Bris’ plans.
According to AS, Sunderland could ‘look to move him on’ in January.
There’s no mention or suggestion of any interested parties just yet. However, Poveda has to find a new club to save his career.
