On March 21st, Sport stated Barcelona sporting director Deco has identified Everton star Amadou Onana as his main target. It was also reported the director is aware that the Toffees would be willing to sell him in the summer.
A fresh report from Sport states the Catalan club’s midfield targets are the 22-year-old, OGC Nice’s Khéphren Thuram and Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer and Girona’s Aleix García.
The deals for Wieffer and García won’t be easy and the report adds there are ‘problems’ for Barca to sign Onana.
A fee in excess of €60m would be needed to take the Belgium international away from Sean Dyche’s side and that makes the deal ‘more than complicated’ for the Blaugrana. Thuram, on the other hand, is below the former Lille man in the list of targets.
Barcelona need to sign a new midfielder in the summer and in the event they decide to invest around €50-60m on the same position, it needs to be seen if they will spend that on Onana.
That’s because if Xavi Hernández, who has decided to leave the club after this season, decides to continue, he would prefer Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi over the Everton midfielder.
