Leeds United may have won the race for Barcelona youngster Ilias Akhomach, with Barcelona accepting that he is leaving the Nou Camp.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say those in charge at the club have tried in vain to convince the player to stay where he is.
Akhomach has been heavily linked with a move away from the Nou Camp over the last few months, with his contract expiring and no new deal being agreed.
Leeds are one of those who have been named among his suitors and a report today stated that they were the strongest candidates to secure his signature this summer.
Mundo Deportivo now pick up on that, explaining that Barcelona know they have to rely on their youngsters moving forwards but Akhomach will not be one of them.
He has reached the end of his current deal and, despite the lack of an ‘official confirmation’ about his next destination, he ‘is going to Leeds’ in the summer.
Barcelona chiefs Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff had tried to ‘save the situation’ and keep hold of him and fellow youngster Víctor Barberá but were warned too late about the ‘critical situation’ and could not rectify it.
That’s a situation they are determined to ensure does not happen in future, with the plan to lock down young prospects ahead of time to stop clubs like Leeds moving in and luring him away.
It seems as far as they’re concerned Akhomach is a lost cause and the Whites will be securing him once the season comes to an end.
