As Manchester United and Newcastle United stay interested in signing Gonçalo Inácio from Sporting this summer, newspaper O Jogo today shares interesting news about the defender’s future.
With the Lions recently selling Manuel Ugarte for €60m, they no longer feel a big need to negotiate exits for other players, and had been interested in giving the centre-back a new contract.
However, according to the newspaper, even though Inácio sees the renewal ‘with good eyes’, he’s still ‘attentive’ to the clubs that are coming for him.
O Jogo lists a few sides who’ve been interested in the 21-year-old, and both Manchester United and Newcastle get a mention.
Regarding the Magpies, it’s claimed the approach they made for the signing in the past ‘has not aroused big interest in the player’.
The situation seems to be different with Manchester United. O Jogo also mentions the Red Devils having Inácio ‘referenced’, but doesn’t highlight him having any resistance regarding a move to Old Trafford as he apparently does with Newcastle.
The story claims the defender stalled the talks for the renewal with Sporting for now, and will only sign a new contract once he’s certain there are no interesting offers from abroad.
He currently has a release clause worth €45m, and that clearly makes a departure easier, as the Lions want the new deal to have that price raised to €60m.
