As Michele Di Gregorio prepared to move from Monza to Juventus this summer, there were repeated claims of interest from other clubs.
Several other Serie A sides were credited with interest in the impressive goalkeeper, and there were also claims related to the Premier League.
Liverpool were said to be keen on the stopper, after claims that Saudi clubs were looking to tempt Alisson away from Anfield this summer.
Then it was stated in multiple reports across Italy that despite there being interest from Arne Slot’s side, Di Gregorio preferred to move to Turin.
That Juventus move has been completed, with the 26-year-old initially moving on a loan basis.
Di Gregorio’s agent has now spoken to Tuttosport about the transfer, and Liverpool got a mention. The representative was very diplomatic and perhaps wants to keep an Anfield door open for the future.
Fanta Calcio quote him as saying: “There was strong interest from the Reds, but I want to underline that it was not a no to Liverpool, but rather the keeping of the word given to Juve. We had shaken hands with Giuntoli a few months ago and we wanted to respect the agreement made. For a goalkeeper, Juve represents the top club to play at: history says so.”
Maybe in the future, Di Gregorio could get another chance to consider a move to Liverpool. Right now, Slot will be happy Alisson seems to be sticking around.
