Nicolas Pepé’s potential departure from Arsenal is turning into a late summer drama, even after the end of the English transfer window.
Despite reports claiming the player was undergoing a medical with Besiktas, we saw on Monday stories saying the Turkish club ‘clearly deny’ they’re signing him and suggestions it was the player’s agent pushing the claims about a transfer being close.
Still, there’s insistence from the French media about the transfer, with L’Equipe today featuring a new story on this case.
The outlet insists that Pepé ‘passed his medical’ on Monday and ‘agreed’ to join Besiktas.
The problem is that the agreement between Arsenal and the Istanbul side now ‘must be reviewed’, and ‘new negotiations’ between all parties are set to restart.
L’Equipe claims Pepé’s transfer to Besiktas is currently ‘blocked’ and there aren’t any details of what is wrong in the agreement between the clubs.
The Turkish transfer window only closes on the 15h of September, so there’s more than enough time for them to get the transfer done.
We’re now just left wondering whether Arsenal are making new demands for the move.
Reports are still to detail whether that’s a permanent or a loan transfer as well, but with Besiktas going out of their way to deny the move, and claims the agent is the one pushing it, this latest update really isn’t clarifying this strange situation.
