Manchester United have won the race for Erling Braut Håland.

At least, that’s what Corriere dello Sport would have you believe on Friday, as they look at Napoli’s interest in the player.

We’ll tell you right now, it’s a bit of a strange article, as the Italian newspaper seem very defeatist at the prospect of the Norwegian talent ending up in the south of Italy, despite him being a ‘dream of [Aurelio] De Laurentiis, [Cristiano] Giuntoli and [Carlo] Ancelotti’.

He was seen to have the ‘right profile to give further meaning to their project’, ‘but then came Manchester United, with its charm and its riches’.

It’s said the Premier League side have ‘turned off the light’ at Napoli, seemingly referring to the lightbulb moment the Serie A club had of signing Håland, whom they had begun following ‘discreetly’.

Unfortunately, along the way, they discovered there would be more competition and ‘Manchester United would bring him back to the city where his father, Alf-Inge, became a pillar for City’.

They describe the young forward as a ‘force of nature, a hymn to light-heartedness and yet also a cascade of millions of euros for Salzburg’, who will be able to ‘enjoy this announced deal with Manchester United that will multiply (ten times, twenty times?) those five million euros invested eight months ago’.

Corriere then end their article by simply stating that in Manchester, they say ‘business is business’.

We’re not exactly sure where all this has come from, but the Italian newspaper seem pretty adamant United have won the race for Håland, and it’s not far from being announced?

We’ll have to wait and see for this one, and we certainly wouldn’t recommend the Old Trafford faithful start celebrating just yet.
