Arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in a £9m deal back in 2019, it’s fair to say that Timothy Weah has never really managed to make things click at Lille.
The 22-year-old forward has played a fair amount all the while suffering from a few injuries, but his output is anything but impressive, with just eight goals and six assists in 75 games to date.
Still, his versatility, capable of playing anywhere across the front three, has made a few teams, like Southampton, keep an eye on him.
This comes from Foot Mercato in France, who point out that while there might be interest in the USA international, he looks likely to stay at Lille next season.
There’s a belief he’s now finding his feet, scoring three goals in his last two Ligue 1 games, and the player ‘wants to finally have a reference season at the highest level’ after being hindered by injuries throughout his stay in the north of France.
That’s bad news for Southampton, who might have been hoping to get him at an affordable price, but it seems the intentions of Lille and Weah are for him to grow a bit more, get more minutes and consistency under his belt before allowing him to move to greener pastures for a healthy profit.
