Lazio recently played a friendly against Southampton and things got a bit messy.
A brawl broke out between multiple players and this led to reports in the Italian press suggesting that Lazio’s interest in Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz may have had a wobble.
As strange as that claim was, there is an update on the situation of the midfielder, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus.
Corriere dello Sport have reported today that despite what happened during the recent game, relations between the two clubs are good. The brawl hasn’t impacted any potential market manoeuvres.
Alcaraz is still someone Lazio like, despite the fact that he was at the centre of the scuffles. The Roman club could aim to sign the Southampton man on a ‘loan with option to buy’ deal.
The outlet claim that a previous relationship between the two clubs exists since Southampton sold Wesley Hoedt to Lazio back in 2017 and they remain on positive terms.
Given that the Juventus loan and option move didn’t benefit Southampton in any meaningful way whatsoever, they’d surely be hesitant to do similar again.
