Atalanta have been working to sign Southampton’s Kamaldeen Sulemana over the past couple of weeks and have now made a decisive breakthrough.
TuttoAtalanta report the Ghana international is set to join the Italian side for a fee of €17m plus bonuses.
The Southampton player will undergo a medical with La Dea in Milan today and if that goes well, Sulemana will sign a contract at Atalanta’s headquarters tomorrow. After that, the forward’s move to the Italian side will be made official.
The outlet claim that the 23-year-old will sign a four-year contract at Atalanta and there will be an option for a fifth year.
This reflects the Bergamo club’s trust in Sulemana, who showed glimpses of his pace and 1v1 ability under Ivan Juric last season at Southampton. The Ghanaian was ‘strongly desired’ by the Croatian at Atalanta and this has played a key role in the transfer.
As a result, Sulemana is expected to become the face of a revolution at La Dea, who parted ways with their iconic manager Gian Piero Gasperini last month.
Southampton signed the forward for around €25m in 2023. Considering their relegation, earning over €17m from his exit feels like a decent deal.
